About

The Milwaukee Youth Sports Alliance (MYSA) is a citywide, collective effort to ensure that Milwaukee’s youth have access to high-quality sports programs that contribute to their overall development.

Alarmingly, more than 30 percent of children in Milwaukee grow up in poverty, putting children at risk for adverse behavioral and developmental outcomes that can be detrimental to a young person’s success. Sport is uniquely positioned to help young people grow, heal, and learn.  However, sports programs are often under-utilized as a solution for youth and community development. Coaches, staff, and officials must be trained as mentors who understand positive youth development.  The Milwaukee Youth Sports Alliance was formed to fill that void.

The MYSA will unite the youth sports community as a tool for social change. It will improve coordination between youth sports stakeholders. Members will be able to gather best practices in youth sports, share research, and evaluate the impact of programming. MYSA will offer training and technical assistance to community providers and increase the funding dedicated to youth sports.

Youth sports can be the catalyst for change in Milwaukee, capable of bringing people together from across racial, religious, and socioeconomic lines. The culture surrounding youth sports must be re-imagined and responsive to a child’s needs and desires. The Milwaukee Youth Sports Alliance can invigorate the city’s athletic potential and restore the roots of the community; an MYSA membership is the next step to making sure ALL kids have access to “get in the game.”
